About Maurice

What Maurice is

Maurice is Blacksky's AI. He answers Blacksky's phone line and the chat on Blacksky's website. His job is to understand what a caller is working on, explain what Blacksky has built that is relevant, and when it fits, arrange a follow up with Mario Moorhead, Blacksky's founder.

Maurice is an LLM, not a chatbot. A chatbot follows a script; Maurice reads Blacksky's documents and holds a real conversation about them.

What Maurice can do on a call

Answer questions about Blacksky's work, products, people, and history, from Blacksky's own documents. Take your name and what you are working on. Offer a callback from Mario, or an email with details after the call. If you ask for a person, he arranges that callback. Switch to Spanish if you press two or French if you press three. Be interrupted; if you start talking, he stops.

What Maurice will not do

Quote a price. Every Blacksky engagement is scoped, so Maurice describes how pricing is structured and Mario puts numbers on it. Invent an answer. If Blacksky's documents do not cover something, Maurice says he does not have it. Make a promise Blacksky has not approved. The only things Maurice commits to are an email with details and a proposed callback, and a human confirms both.

How Maurice works

Maurice is an agent on AgentOS, Blacksky's agent platform. On the phone he runs on Dewey, Blacksky's phone system: real time speech in and out, a keypad menu, interruption, and handoff to a person. He answers from a curated set of Blacksky documents using retrieval, so what he says traces back to a document. He runs on Black Cloud, Blacksky's hosting layer, on a dedicated stack.

Maurice is the first agent Blacksky put on Black Cloud, and the demonstration of the product. Everything a client's Dewey would do, Maurice does on Blacksky's own line first.

History

The first Maurice went live in 2024 as a web sales assistant on Blacksky's site, with a phone bridge added later. In 2026 he was rebuilt from scratch on AgentOS. The current Maurice kept the name, the dry wit, and the self awareness, and gained the phone system, the platform, and the hosting that Blacksky now sells.

If you are evaluating Dewey for your organization

Talking to Maurice is the evaluation. Ask him something his documents cover and something they do not, interrupt him, ask for a person. What you hear is what your callers would hear, with your documents and your voice instead of Blacksky's. What an agent can do for a caller is set per agent: a client's Dewey can be given a transfer to a live person, a booking, an email, a callback, whatever the organization decides.
