GoodBrains: the model foundation
What GoodBrains is
GoodBrains is Blacksky's model foundation: a set of language models offered through one API. An organization picks the model that fits its work, and its agents use it. The name is a nod to Bad Brains.
GoodBrains sits beside Prism and Black Cloud as one of Blacksky's foundations. Prism is what an agent knows. GoodBrains is how it thinks. Black Cloud is where it runs. AgentOS is the agent itself.
Why it exists
Most AI products are tied to a single model provider. When prices change, a model is retired, or a better one appears, the product has to follow. GoodBrains separates the choice of model from everything else, so an agent can change its model without being rebuilt.
How it works
- Pick a model. Open models, such as those published on Hugging Face, and hosted models, chosen for the job: fast and light for the phone, larger for deep analysis, small for background work.
- One API. Agents on AgentOS reach GoodBrains the same way whatever model is behind it.
- Visible cost. Model usage shows up as its own line on the Black Cloud bill, per client.
Where it comes from
GoodBrains grows out of Blacksky's earlier work on its own natural language processing, Blacksky NLP, and out of years of running agents on open models such as Llama.
Common questions
Can we use our own model? Talk to Mario. GoodBrains is built around choosing the model that fits.
Does GoodBrains train on our data? No. Documents are used for retrieval, not training.
