Overview
The BSM (Blacksky Symbiotic Modular Utility Node) is a self-sustaining biomimetic infrastructure node modeled on a living tree. Not a device that looks like a tree — a system that behaves like one. It produces energy, provides shelter, communicates, senses its environment, protects itself, and sustains the ecosystem around it — including the human community it serves.
Patent: Provisional Application #63/989,974, filed February 2026. Nonprovisional filing targeted for November 2026.
The Core Innovation — NLM Architecture
BSM is built on NLM (No Language Model) — emergent intelligence from populations of simple agents following minimal rules, rather than a centralized AI brain. The same way a biological nervous system works: no single component is smart, the intelligence emerges from the relationships between components.
Two foundational principles govern every design decision:
- "What makes something alive is its remarkable ability to fight entropy" — the tree's default state is always conservation
- Emergent intelligence from tiny specialized cells — the same way biological nervous systems work
The Six Patent Claims
- Hierarchical Ganglion Processing — Tiered distributed intelligence (leaf → branch → trunk) with graceful degradation during hot-swap
- Bio-Bus Open Ecosystem Interface — Universal interface layer with NFC role-based civic access and open-source drone standard
- Privacy-Preserving Surveillance — On-device classification (man/animal/machine) with immediate raw data destruction. No identifiable footage ever stored.
- Autonomous Drone Habitat & Swarm Coordination — Tree as base station for open-source drone flock (SlimeHive). Mode-aware mission dispatch.
- Predictive Mode State Machine — Storm Mode + Emergency Mode can run simultaneously. Tree protects itself while serving the community.
- Distributed Hyperlocal Weather Intelligence — Mesh network of trees creates weather grid at resolution no fixed station can match.
The Unified Permission Matrix
Modes and user roles are two axes of a single programmable configuration matrix. The intersection of role (First Responder / Community / Public) and mode (Harvest / Storm / Emergency) determines actual behavior. Every cell is programmable by the operator. Same hardware, different matrix, completely different civic behavior.
Product Lines
BETree — Solar Tracking Consumer Device
Consumer-scale solar-tracking bonsai tree. Servo-driven branches follow the sun via LDR sensors. Charges devices via USB. Demonstrates NLM peer-consensus sun-tracking at desk scale.

Xyte — Privacy-Native Surveillance Cameras
Blur-first, classify-second architecture. On-device ML classifies as man/animal/machine, immediately destroys raw visual data. Five camera models: Door Cam, Garden Cam, Trail Cam, Warehouse Cam, Public Cam. All can be powered by BETree solar nodes.
AL (Artificial Life) — Robotic Ant Colony Terrarium
Physical robotic colony you can buy, program, and watch build its own terrarium. Five rover types (Queen, Builder, Scout, Drone, Predator) running NLM rule sets. App lets you swap behavior patterns. Consumer expression of SlimeHive swarm technology.
MSaaS — SaaS Financial Model
Interactive financial model for the LLM-as-a-Service business. Configurable inputs (server costs, token pricing, customer growth) with live KPI outputs (MRR, gross margin, break-even, runway projections).
Physical Architecture
Trunk segments stack modularly in Fibonacci progression (3/5/8 segments). Every component is hot-swappable. Dual-sided leaves harvest solar during the day and emit programmable light at night. Biomimetic aqueduct channels rainfall through leaf geometry. Root port provides emergency water and power injection to city infrastructure.
The Open Source Philosophy
The Bio-Bus standard is open. The drone spec is open. Third-party developers can build plugins, sensors, and autonomous agents that integrate with any BSM tree. Like iPhone cases or Android apps — anyone can build for the ecosystem, the patent protects the organism.
Status
Provisional patent filed. Product line pages built. BETree configurator and power calculator complete. Prototype development underway for Artscape exhibition. Nonprovisional filing sprint roadmap active through November 2026.
